About Drew Nelson

Drew Nelson opened Carolina Appeal in 2024 after spending a decade practicing in the appellate courts of North Carolina.

Drew represents clients before the North Carolina Court of Appeals, the Supreme Court of North Carolina, and in the Supreme Court of the United States.  He also partners with attorneys working on appellate matters by helping trial counsel identify appropriate issues, craft winning arguments, and draft a persuasive brief.

Drew has argued multiple cases before the Supreme Court of North Carolina and the North Carolina Court of Appeals and has taught appellate practice courses as an adjunct professor.

He received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and then graduated, with honors, as a joint-degree student from the UNC School of Law and Duke University Sanford School of Public Policy. He served as an Executive Editor of the North Carolina Law Review while at UNC-Law.

After graduating from law school, Drew worked as a litigation attorney for a large North Carolina firm and served as an Assistant General Counsel at North Carolina State University before beginning his appellate practice.

Outside of practicing law, Drew spends time with his wife and their two daughters. He enjoys reading, running, and spending as much time as possible sitting on the beach.

Drew Nelson was born and raised in Wilmington, North Carolina.  Beginning with elementary school in Wilmington, Drew attended North Carolina public schools until he graduated from UNC’s law school. In recognition of the benefits he has received from the people and the state of North Carolina, Drew gives twenty percent of Carolina Appeal’s annual profits to North Carolina charities.
